BIO - Mary Brooke Casad
Mary Brooke Casad was a delegate to six United Methodist General and Jurisdictional Conferences (1992-2012). She was Director of Connectional Ministries for the United Methodist Church in the Dallas area (1997-2007), the first woman and layperson named to this position. She served as Executive Secretary of The Connectional Table of The United Methodist Church (2007-2012).
Casad is past chair of UMR Communications, Inc., Foundation for Evangelism, and served two terms on the Board of Directors of the Texas Methodist Foundation. She has served on the Hymnal Revision Committee of The United Methodist Hymnal (1989). She currently serves on the NTC Commission on Archives and History and Board of Trustees, Project Transformation National Board of Directors and Institute for Discipleship Advisory Board.
She is the author of the Bluebonnet Armadillo Adventure children’s books series, detailing Bluebonnet’s travels to historic sites in Texas. Casad co-authored a discipleship study series, “The Basics,” with her brother, Dr. Clayton Oliphint, pastor of First United Methodist Church, Richardson. She was commissioned by the E. Stanley Jones Foundation to write a biography of his life for young readers, “Scepter of the Universe.”
A native of Louisiana, “Mary Brooke” Oliphint Casad received a bachelor's degree in journalism from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, and studied at Harlaxton College in Grantham, England. Her husband, Dr. Victor E. Casad, is a retired United Methodist clergyman. They have two sons, a daughter-in-law and three grandchildren.
